In a speech given at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, on January 31, 1999, then-UN secretary general Kofi Annan first unveiled his intent to establish a global pact.
In his speech, he called upon companies with international operations to meet the challenges of globalization proactively, by applying shared, universal social and environmental values. The aim of this pact, termed the Global Compact, is to use the power of collective action to increase the social involvement of companies and make the economy part of the solution. The new secretary general Ban Ki-Moon is pressing ahead this endeavors of the global compact.
Since the operational phase of the compact began, in summer 2000, companies from all over the world, international employees’ associations, and civil society organizations have signed on to the Global Compact. tesa SE has also adopted the compact, thereby underscoring the company’s vivid tradition of responsibility.
