tesa SE is top when it comes to environmental protection. The long established Hamburg based enterprise was recently distinguished by being presented with the Environmental Award of the “Bundesdeutscher Arbeitskreis für Umweltbewusstes Management (B.A.U.M. e.V) – (German Federal Commission for Environmentally Conscious Management – B.A.U.M. e.V) On Tuesday of this week the Federal Secretary of the Environment Jürgen Trittin and Hamburg’s Lord Mayor Ole von Beust presented the certificates to this year’s laureates at the Hamburg Chamber of Crafts.
The B.A.U.M Environmental Award is presented every year to personalities from business, science and the media who are successfully and exemplarily engaged in environmental protection and sustained development since many years. Dr. Wolfgang Schacht, Director Quality Management, Environmental Protection and Occupational Health and Safety, received the Award for
tesa SE.
The consistent and successful implementation of an efficient and integrated environmental management system that incorporates quality management, environmental protection and occupational safety form part of the acknowledged achievements of tesa SE.
Another part of the company’s strategy is the development and the use of new solvent free production processes. By means of roughly 80 environmental projects the use of solvents within the tesa group world wide could be reduced by 36 % since 2002, and energy consumption by 19 %. A further objective of the environmental programme is the certification of all production facilities world wide in accordance with international environmental and quality standards. So far all European locations as well as the tesa plants in the United States and in Malaysia have already been certified according to the sophisticated environmental standard ISO 14001.
Amongst the 10 laureates of the B.A.U.M Environment Award 2005 were the entrepreneur Dr. Michael Otto (mail order house Otto GmbH & Co KG), “Tagesschau” anchor woman Anne Will (German TV Daily News) as well as singer Peter Maffay. All laureates were honoured by a special ceremony plus large charity gala held at the Hamburg Concert Hall to the benefit of selected regional and international children’s help programs.
B.A.U.M e.V. was founded in 1984 as the first non-party environmental initiative of the business community. With 450 members it is today one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe.
