Any salesman knows: appealing and fancy packaging is an important advantage in the rivalry of winning the customer’s favour. A novel label by tesa Bandfix AG, Swiss technology leader in self-adhesive labels and label printing, now opens up many versatile options in the design of collapsible tubes.

The new highly transparent label conforms to the tube like skin. Thus it is hardly visible and provides the impression that the design has been printed directly onto the tube. The label backing consists of a novel, extremely stretchable composite film made of polypropylene. It also adheres reliably to the edges and welded seams and perfectly adjusts to the tube during squeezing. Moreover, the backing film made of
PET-silicone allows for high speed labelling. This permits optimal integration of the labels into the production process.

Production of the labels is made possible by a novel specialty process as well. The film backing is imprinted in reverse printing and coated with adhesive in the same production step. In this way the imprint is ideally protected from the tube content as well as from humidity. Since the printing ink is applied between film and adhesive it is protected against flaking even when the tube is being pressed, squeezed or kneaded. Additional advantage of the new process: the tube labels can also be equipped with mirror finish effects.

The new generation of tube labels expands the present design options in an elegant way – so that consumers will gladly snap at the chance.
