Milestone 2004: Use of solvents reduced by 36 % - increase in efficiency prevents rising energy costs

tesa AG has again improved its energy balance in fiscal 2004. All in all the consumption of solvents in relation to produced area has been reduced by 36 % since the implementation of the environment programme in 2002. In relation to constant production volumes, energy consumption fell by 19 % in the same period. This means that tesa has already now nearly reached the environmental targets set for the year 2007. The success underlines that tesa is continuously and efficiently implementing its environment programme also in difficult times and has also acted economically provident: in view of noticeably rising energy costs the consistent implementation of this strategy will contribute significantly towards an improved competitiveness of the company in the years to come.

A major factor in this achievement is the solvent-free coating plant, using tesa-developed and –patented technology which has been employed with great success in mass production at the Offenburg plant. In 2004 additional products were converted to the new technology. A new and particularly efficient air-conditioning system commissioned at the tesa R & D facility in Hamburg has contributed to the noticeable reduction in energy consumption. Also at the Hamburg-Hausbruch factory, the continuation of the modernisation measures in the slitting area contributed to greater efficiency and a reduction in energy consumption.
The factories in Malaysia and Sparta / USA were the first non-European tesa locations to be successfully certified in accordance with the international Environmental Standard ISO 14001. In this way tesa has strengthened its position as a partner to industry operating world wide on the basis of exacting standards. The certification of all locations world wide is planned for the year 2006.
